4 Killed as Bus Falls into Trishuli

Sept 1 - At least four people were killed after a passenger bus fell into Trishuli River along the Pirthvi Highway early Wednesday. Police said the bus carrying 29 passengers fell into the river near Kurintar. Two women and two men are among the dead.

Another 21 passengers were injured and were rescued.

The bus, belonging to Himal Yatayat, was bound for Dharan from Kathmandu.

The cause of the accident is not immediately known.

Four passengers were killed in a bus accident this morning near Kurintar in Prithvi Rajmarg’s

Darechowk VDC-3, while 29 others were injured in the accident.

Himal Yatayat’s passenger bus (Na 2 Kha 6043), carrying 30 passengers and three bus employees, was en route to Dharan from Kathmandu when it met with the accident.

According to the Armed Police Force base camp in Kurintar, the bus fell 150 metres to the banks of Trishuli river at 8:45 am.

The dead have been identified as Umadevi Ansari, 40, of Saptari’s Pathauna VDC, Bidur Prasad Singh, 80, of Saptari Kathauna, Jeevan Regmi, 25, of Gorkha Ghyalchowk-5, Bhesh Kumari Neupane, 24, of Jhapa Chandragadhi-6.

Among the injured, 15 persons have returned home receiving treatment, and 11 are getting treatment at Kurintar.

The three bus employees have been taken to Kathmandu for treatment.

The bus driver has sustained deep head injury, it is reported.
