DHARAN, Feb 17 - Former Nepali international Milan Shrestha and Buddha Chemjong scored first half goals as local Dharan 'Yellow' defeated Knight Chase Club, Jhapa 2-0 to enter the quarterfinals of the Budhasubba Gold Cup today.
Dharan 'Yellow' was a late replacement after visiting Sahara Club, Pokhara failed to report to the ground on time. Sahara will meet Thermal Sporting Club of Assam, India on Friday.
In the closely fought first half the local team made up for the first day exit of Dharan 'Red' scoring the first goal in the 22nd minute. Dharan captain Milan Shrestha headed home off a superb cross from striker Krasit Rai creating a huge roar inside Dharan Stadium.
The visitors also pushed hard to earn an
equalizer before Buddha doubled the lead in the 38th minute. Jhapa goalie Rupak Gurung stood still when Buddha connected a flick header off a corner taken by Rishi.
Jhapa had a great opportunity in the first half but Susan Bhandari faltered and hit it wide with Dharan goalie Dilip Chhetri well beaten.
The visitors regrouped in the second half but looked toothless at the front. Dharan goalie Dilip, who plays for fallen giant Rani Pokhari Corner Team (RCT), was instrumental saving three lethal shots from Jhapa players in the second half. Dharan's defender Suman Subedi was adjudged man of the match.
