At an age when most people give up physical activities and prefer sitting in their cozy homes as couch potatoes in front of the idiot box, three Nepali cyclists in their mid-40s have embarked on a world tour and left Kathmandu on Thursday. Their first corridor is India. Wearing daura-surwal and carrying the national flag of Nepal, they aim to visit around 113 countries with the message of global peace.

The three have been identified as Lok Bahadur Karki from Dharan, and Narayan Prasad Kharel and Dhakeshwor Chhetri, both from Damak. They kicked off their world tour from Damak on February 18 and entered the Kathmandu Valley on March 13.

According to the team, in the first leg of their tour, they will travel to Brunei through Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia.

"We've estimated over 15 months to cover these countries," said team member Lok Bahadur Karki.

The second leg of the tour would start after their arrival in Kathmandu. They have planned to begin their journey from Brunei to Japan via Australia, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Hong Kong, Taiwan and South Korea. They have estimated about two years to complete the second leg of the odyssey.

Nepal's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already granted them the permission for the world cycle tour.

"We haven't yet decided o

n the final destination of the journey, but we hope to conclude the global venture either in the

USA or in any of the European countries," said Dhakeshowr Chhetri.

In their global ride they intend to make Nepal known to the peoples of the world. The Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) has supplied them with brochures, pamphlets and other such similar items for the purpose.

Nepal Police, Nepal Jaycees, Nepal Red Cross, many educational institutes and various municipalities have financially aided the three Nepali world cyclists. Similarly, Hero Company has donated bicycles to them.
