Oct 30 - More than two dozen journalists including three associated with Kantipur daily and Kantipur Television were arrested by police in Dharan for demonstrating against the recently promulgated media ordinance Sunday afternoon.
Those arrested include Kantipur's Sunsari district correspondent Bed Raj Poudel and Dharan correspondent Harsha Subba, Kantipur Television camera man Arjun Pokharel, Pradip Mayongbo, vice president of the Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ) Sanjay Santoshi Rai, FNJ Sunsari district chairman Govinda Ghimire, secretary Janakshri Rai, Himal Rai, Jas Kumar Rai, Kishor Karki, Keshav Ghimire, Dambar Krishna Shrestha, Rimesh Shrestha, Bhim Rai, Sita Mandemba, BhuwaN Lingden, Shaligram Pandey, Raj Kumar Karki, Gopal Dewan, Ikwal Ahmad, Ravin Giri, Babu Ram Subedi, Rajen Pokhrel and Shashi Thapa Subba among others.
The police led by Sub-Inspector Ram Kaji Katuwal manhandled the scribes while arresting them, reported our Biratnagar correspondent.
Likewise, police also arrested scores of political cadres affiliated to Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and People's Front Nepal for expressing their solidarity with media men.
Meanwhile, in Kathmandu, a group of editors and publishers have also staged a similar protest against the controversial ordinance this afternoon.
The rally started from New Baneswor and concluded at Maitighar after a mass meeting.
