Dharan, July 10
Police arrested more than 20 earthquake victims who were staging a relay hunger strike demanding to waive the loans at the branch offices of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) and Rastriya Banijya Bank (RBB) in Dharan this afternoon.
Chairperson of the Earthquake Victims Struggle Committee Poshraj Niraula said police intervened in a peaceful protest while they were staging a sit-in at the Inland Revenue office. The police also arrested those persons who tried to disrupt traffic protesting the arrest of the agitators, he added.
The government had provided loan amounts ranging from Rs 5, 000 to Rs 50,000 to the victims of the earthquake that occured on August 21, 1988.
