DHARAN, Oct 26 (PR) - Philatelists have called on the government to ensure that Nepali postage stamps also encompass various aspects of national importance from outside the Kathmandu valley.
In its 123-year history the postal service has issued 763 different stamps, of which only a negligible number feature heritage sites outside the valley. Shyam Khatiwada, general secretary of Birat Philately Society, contends that the entire eastern region has been neglected in postal stamps even though it offers numerous sites and aspects of religious and cultural importance. Director of the central postal department Harikrishna Poudel admits to the shortcoming.
