KATHMANDU, Dec 31 - Maoists have lifted their blockades and strikes imposed at various districts in the eastern region on Friday. Normal life in eastern region particularly Koshi and Mechi zones were adversely affected for the past 11 days following rumors of Maoists so called blockades and strikes at various areas.

A statement issued by the regional level leader on Friday stated that blockades in the area were lifted and strikes have been called off, reported our Biratnagar correspondent.

However, long route transportation services in both Koshi and Mechi zones have still not come into operation, added reports.

Traffic along the eastern districts including Paanchthar, Ilam, Taplejung, Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari, Saptari and Sankhuwasabha came to a standstill since the past 11 days due to rumors of blockades and strikes.

Similarly, Maoists have put off their general strike in Siraha district on Friday.

Meanwhile, Maoists have torched two passenger buses at Nakatajim VDC-8 in Dhanusha district along Mahendra Highway overnight.

Reports said the two buses bound to Ilam and Dharan from Kathamndu were set ablaze for defying the Maoists called strike.
