Feb 7 - The security forces have stopped the illegal operation of Reliance mobile network phones that have been in regular use for last two years. Majority of industrialists and businessmen in the bordering areas near Biratnagar had been using Reliance mobile network phones for their daily use.
However, with the Nepal Telecom’s (NT) decision to stop the usage of telephone and Internet from Tuesday, security forces have been cracking down on the illegal use of the Reliance mobile phone. According to the security officials, more than 200 telephone antennas have been seized so far during the six-day action.Local businessmen had been subscribing the Reliance mobile phones from the bordering Indian town of Silguri. Buoyed by the huge demand from Nepali customers, Reliance had even increased its frequency range to attract customers from as far as Dharan, Itahari, Damak, Birtamod and Dhulabari. As a result, Nepali subscribers were enjoying ISD calls to India at local rate. According to the NT officials, the telecom had been incurring Rs five million monthly loss due to this illegal operation.
