Dear All,

There was an informal gathering of 7 Dharanes in the UK to discuss best course of action to take in order to provide some assistance (financial or otherwise) towards the construction of Dharan Stadium (Don't panic, I am not talking about building the whole stadium just now).

As you all are aware the recently concluded 9th Budha Subba Gold Cup was an overwhelmingly successful event. Every year Dharan Football Club (DFC) spends considerable amount of money to fence off the football pitch for the event in order to prevent people from watching the games without paying. To help them raise money through gate receipt and prevent the pitch being misused on a daily basis DFC has requested some individuals to assist in construction of perimeter fence. Obviously this is a huge task and requires a lot of time and effort, and most importantly, money to fulfil their request.

As I mentioned previously an informal meeting was held last weekend to form a plan. It was decided then, a committee needs to be formed in order to plan and execute it accordingly. The plan now is to form a committee of around 10 people (UK based) by 28 May 07 (after the Gurkha Cup in the UK). More information will be posted on this site on nominations for the committee and the way voting will be conducted. Meanwhile could I ask all Dharanes and well wishers, regardless of where they reside, to give this information maximum circulation to make everyone aware, and request their suggestions/contributions to make this project a success.

Can I remind u all, Dharan Ghantaghar and the monument sits proudly in Bhanu Chowk, which could not have been possible without a vision and the hard work put in by Dharanes living in Hong Kong. So to all the doubters about this project look no further than the Ghantaghar.

Ashok Dai (Australia),
I am sure you can garner some support for this project in Australia.

Saile, Jay, Gehendra, Bijay and everyone else that I know residing in USA,
You guys can do the same in the land of opportunity.

If you would like to know more about the project please post your queries here and I will endeavour to answer your questions.

Best regards,

P.S. Administrators, what's happening with the Gallery? I have some pictures from Budha Subba Gold Cup to upload. Could u let me know when this will get resolved?

I think this is not being publicised as widely as we wish this to. Or simply people are fed up with the "Budget Blunder" by the Past Football Committee in Dharan

A small handful of us (marked with asterisk below) sat down on April Fool’s day to briefly discuss the possibility of providing assistance with the redevelopment of our Dharan Stadium. To redevelop the whole stadium would be a huge task and very expensive however it was agreed that perhaps to build a wall perimeter (Priority 1) around the stadium would not be a too bigger task. The perimeter will provide security and protection of the stadium resulting in much improved playing pitch condition. More importantly, it will bring the cost right down to run the Annual Budha Subba Gold Cup; an annual event organized by the Dharan Football Club (DFC). Priority 2, depending on the balance of the funds, the incentive is to construct a Team Changing Room and toilet facilities.

Provided that we have your overwhelming support and TRUST, the following will volunteer to take the project forward:

Project Leader Bhakta Limbu * + (44) (0)7888791109
Assistant Project Leader Raju Limbu * + (44) (0)7878769042
Treasurer Rajeev Shrestha* + (44) (0)7979705225
Assistant Treasurer Shailendra Shrestha + (44) (0)7966509991
Members Yogesh Rai + (44) (0)7799374078
Amarbahadur Gurung* + (44) (0)7877440253
Subar Rai + (44) (0)7786371040
Chhatrabahadur Rai* + (44) (0)7709365565
Nirmaldas Gurung* + (44) (0)7877999275
Anjan Gurung TBC
Balbahadur Tamang + (44) (0)7901751644
Laxmi Pangma + (44) (0)7701093761
Yakchha Limbu + (44) (0)7877614084
Jiwan Subba + (44) (0)7737096721
Dambarsing Gurung + (44

This is just an initial stage; the blueprint for the planning should be with us in the next couple of weeks or so. Only then will we be able to inform everyone the exact costing of the project.

The Clock Tower project was a master stroke and each and everyone involved should be applauded for their excellent initiative. By doing our bit from the UK (hopefully many more to follow in the future) and hopefully Dharanes scattered all over the world, we will help enhance the beauty of our beloved Dharan. After all, if we don’t look after our Dharan, who will?

For further updates, please keep visiting this website and inform all other Dharanes as well.

You can contact anyone from the list above if you have any questions/suggestions with regards to the project.

Your sincerely,

Chhatra
On behalf of all of the above

Just to keep u all in the picture with regards to Dharan Stadium Project, there was a final meeting of committee members on Sat 26th May 07 in Aldershot, UK. The final turn out for the meeting was lower than expected, however all present were unequivocal in their suppor to the Project.

The receipts to raise money have arrived from Nepal, and the Project Leader (Bhakta Limbu) has the bulk of it. The representatives for different areas in the UK have been identified to whom the receipts will be sent. They will be contacting Dharanes and anyone who may offer their help, living in their area to ask for donations. The expected amount from the Dharanes is £100, and was agreed upon during the meeting. Anyone, who wishes to contribute more than £100 are more than welcome. The names of all who contribute more than £100 will be engraved and displayed inside the Stadium. The aim is to raise in excess of £30,000. This will not be possible without generous support from Dharanes and Nepalese communities living abroad. So please be generous when contributing. An application to open a bank account, in the name of Dharan UK Forum, to deposit the money raised, has already been submitted to HSBC bank in Aldershot. So if you are paying by cheque please make it payable to Dharan UK Forum. Signatures of two people (Bikash and Rajeev) will be required to withdraw any money from the account.

Your comments/suggestions are more than welcome in this forum.

Watch this space for more updates in the future.

Could I request you all not to change the subject from Dharan Stadium to anything else when you reply to the topic, so that others can still find it easily?
